Phenolea®Pet is the innovative ingredient widely used in a variety of Human-grade foods, the application of which is now extended to Pet food. Produced from a well-accepted and traditional Mediterranean fruit, Phenolea® Pet  is a natural concentrated defatted olive juice rich in polyphenols. Hydroxytyrosol, the primary polyphenol present in Phenolea® Pet, is one of the most powerful antioxidant molecules present in nature. Olive polyphenols are widely recognized for their biological and technological functions and can act as powerful antioxidants.  The gentle, solvent free and cold Patented sustainable production process allows Phenolea®Pet to preserve the phenolic acid molecules and their characteristics. The array of olive polyphenols contained in Phenolea®Pet are stable at high process temperatures, typical of those used in Pet food. This provides oxidation protection through processing in food and Pet food application.

Biological Activity


The chemical composition of olive fruit extract has been studied extensively and has shown to provide a wide range of physiological benefits. These have been ascribed to the antioxidant properties of the polyphenolic compounds present in Olive fruit. Whilst multiple polyphenols are present in the olive fruit extract, most of the physiological benefits have been attributed to the key polyphenols: Hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives.

Proprietary studies have demonstrated that Phenolea®Pet exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects, confirming the activities as reported in many scientific studies. Previous studies have demonstrated inhibition of proinflammatory pathways and delay of on-set of arthritis, atherosclerosis, neurodegenerative disorders, and many others in multiple in-vitro and in-vivo models.

Technological Additive


The phenolic compounds naturally present in Phenolea®Pet act as primary and secondary antioxidants that can effectively retard oxidation preserving the nutritional value and palatability and extending shelf-life effectively over a range of storage temperatures. Phenolea®Pet has been applied and tested in meat slurries, poultry and vegetable oil, baked treats, fresh cooked high meat treats and kibbles. Specific data are available on request.

High antioxidant activity: Comparative studies show that Phenolea®Pet performs as well or better than many commonly used commercial antioxidant blends such as Rosemary extract and Mixed Tocopherols. When used in combination with other natural antioxidants, the synergic effect considerably improves antioxidant protection.

In meat products, olive extract delays the loss of redness and protect the patties from lipid oxidation.  Olive extract can inhibit the formation of the volatile compounds and literature suggests its effectiveness in reducing development volatile compounds is greater than that of sulfites, a commonly used additive in fresh meat products in petfood and food. The ability of olive extract to inhibit volatile compounds in meat products makes it of particular interest to producers and users of liquid palatants to help preserve the palatability of liquid palatants through storage and post kibble application.
